🖼️ Frame Stock Planner Calculator for Woodworking
Estimate moulding length for rectangular frames including waste.
This free tool helps you turn project measurements into a practical planning estimate. Enter values in Vaelden’s interactive calculator, review the result, and confirm important assumptions against supplier data, measurements, codes or qualified advice before committing materials or money.

How to calculate frame stock planner
Method: Stock length = outside frame perimeter × quantity × waste allowance
- Convert inside opening to outside dimensions using profile width.
- Calculate the outside perimeter for each frame.
- Add allowance for mitres, defects, grain and pattern matching.
Worked example
Using these planning inputs:
- Inside width: 500
- Inside height: 700
- Visible profile width: 35
- Frames: 3
- Waste allowance: 18 %
Moulding to purchase: 9.49 m
Reality check: Wide mouldings, repeating ornament and matched grain can require much more stock than a simple perimeter allowance.
Before you calculate
Use consistent units and the best measured inputs available. Real materials, equipment, site conditions and tolerances can change the result. Vaelden shows planning estimates; regulated, structural, electrical, plumbing, pressure and other safety-critical work still requires appropriate local compliance and professional advice.
