How to calculate printer break-even
Method: Break-even units = fixed investment and overhead ÷ contribution per sale
- Total equipment and setup investment.
- Include overhead across the planning period.
- Subtract variable cost and selling fees from sale price to find contribution.
Worked example
Using these planning inputs:
- Printer and setup investment: 1800 currency
- Monthly fixed costs: 40 currency
- Recovery period: 12 months
- Average sale price: 35 currency
- Variable cost per sale: 12 currency
- Selling fees: 4 %
Sales to break even: 106 sales
Reality check: Break-even arithmetic assumes sales exist at the entered price and excludes tax, financing, returns and opportunity cost.
