How to calculate printer break-even

Method: Break-even units = fixed investment and overhead ÷ contribution per sale

  1. Total equipment and setup investment.
  2. Include overhead across the planning period.
  3. Subtract variable cost and selling fees from sale price to find contribution.

Worked example

Using these planning inputs:

Sales to break even: 106 sales

Reality check: Break-even arithmetic assumes sales exist at the entered price and excludes tax, financing, returns and opportunity cost.

Before you calculate

Use consistent units and the best measured inputs available. Real materials, equipment, site conditions and tolerances can change the result. Vaelden shows planning estimates; regulated, structural, electrical, plumbing, pressure and other safety-critical work still requires appropriate local compliance and professional advice.
