How to calculate print cost

Method: True print cost = material + power + machine time + labour, adjusted for waste; sale price then applies margin and tax

  1. Use time and material from the final slicer profile.
  2. Include failures, setup, post-processing, packaging and platform fees.
  3. Apply margin to full true cost, not only filament.

Worked example

Using these planning inputs:

Suggested price: A$69.07

Reality check: A calculated price does not prove demand. Review licensing, tax, product safety and support obligations before selling.

Before you calculate

Use consistent units and the best measured inputs available. Real materials, equipment, site conditions and tolerances can change the result. Vaelden shows planning estimates; regulated, structural, electrical, plumbing, pressure and other safety-critical work still requires appropriate local compliance and professional advice.
