How to calculate print cost
Method: True print cost = material + power + machine time + labour, adjusted for waste; sale price then applies margin and tax
- Use time and material from the final slicer profile.
- Include failures, setup, post-processing, packaging and platform fees.
- Apply margin to full true cost, not only filament.
Worked example
Using these planning inputs:

- Spool price: 32 currency
- Spool net weight: 1000
- Print time: 9 h
- Average power: 120 W
- Power tariff: 0.32 currency/kWh
- Machine allowance: 1.5 currency/h
- Hands-on labour: 30 min
