How to calculate fence posts
Method: Bays = ceiling(fence length ÷ target spacing); posts = bays + end allowance
- Measure the actual fence alignment.
- Choose maximum bay spacing from the system and site conditions.
- Add corner, end, gate and level-change posts separately.
Worked example
Using these planning inputs:
- Fence length: 30
- Maximum post spacing: 2.4
- Extra posts: 1
Posts required: 15
