◻️ Tile Quantity Calculator for DIY
Estimate tile count with grout joints and waste.
This free tool helps you turn project measurements into a practical planning estimate. Enter values in Vaelden’s interactive calculator, review the result, and confirm important assumptions against supplier data, measurements, codes or qualified advice before committing materials or money.

How to calculate tile quantity
Method: Tile count = tiled area ÷ individual tile face area × waste allowance
- Measure the actual tiled area and subtract openings deliberately.
- Confirm tile dimensions from the selected product.
- Increase waste for diagonal layouts, niches, corners, pattern matching and fragile cuts.
Worked example
Using these planning inputs:
- Surface area: 12
- Tile length: 0.6
- Tile width: 0.3
- Waste: 12 %
Tiles required: 75
Reality check: Area arithmetic cannot validate set-out or grout-joint layout. Dry-plan key sightlines and order one production batch.
Before you calculate
Use consistent units and the best measured inputs available. Real materials, equipment, site conditions and tolerances can change the result. Vaelden shows planning estimates; regulated, structural, electrical, plumbing, pressure and other safety-critical work still requires appropriate local compliance and professional advice.
