How to calculate fastener quantity

Method: Fasteners = rows × points per row × fasteners per point × waste allowance

  1. Count real fastening rows.
  2. Divide run length by spacing and include appropriate end points.
  3. Use the specified fasteners per connection and add a small loss allowance.

Worked example

Using these planning inputs:

Fasteners required: 397

Reality check: Quantity does not determine fastener type, corrosion class, embedment or structural spacing; follow the system specification.

Before you calculate

Use consistent units and the best measured inputs available. Real materials, equipment, site conditions and tolerances can change the result. Vaelden shows planning estimates; regulated, structural, electrical, plumbing, pressure and other safety-critical work still requires appropriate local compliance and professional advice.
