How to calculate running cost
Method: Daily energy cost = watts ÷ 1000 × daily operating hours × tariff
- Use measured average power when the appliance cycles.
- Separate standby time from active operation.
- Test the result against a bill period and time-of-use rates where applicable.
Worked example
Using these planning inputs:
- Power: 1500 W
- Hours per day: 3 h
- Tariff: 0.32 currency/kWh
Monthly cost: A$43.83
