⚡ EV Charging Calculator for Energy
Grid energy and charging cost.
This free tool helps you turn project measurements into a practical planning estimate. Enter values in Vaelden’s interactive calculator, review the result, and confirm important assumptions against supplier data, measurements, codes or qualified advice before committing materials or money.

How to calculate ev charging
Method: Grid energy = battery capacity × state-of-charge increase ÷ charging efficiency; cost = grid energy × tariff
- Use usable battery capacity.
- Calculate the intended percentage increase.
- Allow for charger losses and apply the relevant tariff.
Worked example
Using these planning inputs:
- Usable battery: 60 kWh
- Start charge: 20 %
- Target charge: 80 %
- Tariff: 0.3 currency/kWh
- Efficiency: 90 %
Charging cost: A$12.00
Reality check: Temperature, battery conditioning, charging taper, standby use and time-of-use tariffs affect real energy and cost.
Before you calculate
Use consistent units and the best measured inputs available. Real materials, equipment, site conditions and tolerances can change the result. Vaelden shows planning estimates; regulated, structural, electrical, plumbing, pressure and other safety-critical work still requires appropriate local compliance and professional advice.
