🪨 Aggregate Quantity Calculator for Concrete & Masonry
Estimate gravel or crushed rock volume and mass.
This free tool helps you turn project measurements into a practical planning estimate. Enter values in Vaelden’s interactive calculator, review the result, and confirm important assumptions against supplier data, measurements, codes or qualified advice before committing materials or money.

How to calculate aggregate quantity
Method: Aggregate mass = area × compacted depth × bulk density × extra allowance
- Measure the compacted finished area and depth.
- Use supplier bulk density for the selected material.
- Allow for compaction, subgrade variation and handling loss.
Worked example
Using these planning inputs:
- Area: 40
- Compacted depth: 0.1
- Bulk density: 1.7 t/m³
- Compaction / waste: 15 %
Aggregate volume: 4600.00 L
Reality check: Delivered tonnes and compacted volume vary with grading and moisture; confirm compaction factor and truck access with the supplier.
Before you calculate
Use consistent units and the best measured inputs available. Real materials, equipment, site conditions and tolerances can change the result. Vaelden shows planning estimates; regulated, structural, electrical, plumbing, pressure and other safety-critical work still requires appropriate local compliance and professional advice.
