How to calculate self-consumption value
Method: Daily value = self-consumed solar × import tariff + exported solar × feed-in tariff
- Estimate daily solar energy available.
- Separate energy used onsite from energy exported.
- Value onsite use at the avoided import tariff and exports at the actual feed-in tariff.
Worked example
Using these planning inputs:
- Solar energy available: 10 kWh/day
- Used onsite: 60 %
- Import tariff: 0.32 currency/kWh
- Export tariff: 0.08 currency/kWh
Daily energy value: A$2.24
Reality check: Interval-meter data is much stronger than one annual percentage because load and solar output vary by hour and season.
