How to calculate backup load budget
Method: Backup energy = watts ÷ 1000 × hours per day × days × loss allowance
- List critical loads individually and estimate their realistic duty cycles.
- Multiply combined average power by required backup duration.
- Add conversion losses and a deliberate operating reserve.
Worked example
